Laundromat

The inspiration for the formation of Laundromat arose out of a contact from Klaas and Annet Spijker to Danny Vlaspoel in June 2000. After two very successful Rory Gallagher tributes in Leeuwarden they were looking for new bands – in particular for a Dutch band to play 100% Rory music. Danny, a Rory fan since age 14 who had seen the Man perform quite a few times, was pleased and honoured to take on the challenge.

Leeuwarden 2001 was the launch-pad for the new band and they were absolutely delighted with the reception to their 10 songs /one hour set from an audience of seasoned Gallagher fans from Ireland, Germany, England, Belgium, Scotland, Norway and the Netherlands. They were really struck by the depth of enthusiasm and warmth of the response. As the audience sang along with every song and hung on every note they felt that this was something very special. There was almost a spiritual feeling about the great influence of one man – Rory Gallagher.

The five following years were very successful and Laundromat played a lot in Ireland (Ballyshannon twice, Cork and three tours), England (Sheffield), Holland (Leeuwarden 5 times and really a lot big festivals) and also Germany.
Most gigs were big tributes but they played also small theatres and pubs.

But then there was a change: Ed became a father and didn’t want to play that often anymore, Rob was invited to play with another band and it was over.

After several requests Laundromat made it to play on the 9th Rory Gallagher Tribute Concert Holland with Ted McKenna on drums. It was a huge success and the RG tribute foundation got so many requests to get Laundromat on stage again for the tribute night on November 3rd, that is now soon going to happen with Rob Spijker on drums.

So once again Laundromat with Rob Spijker will play their hearts out for all those Rory Fans with the following line-up:

Guitars - Danny Vlaspoel
Bass - Joeke Wouda
Vocals - Ed Verschoor
Drums – Rob Spijker
